As reported by BBC Sport:
Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt took 400m gold at the World Championships as he again proved too strong for Jeremy Wariner on a wet night in Berlin.
The American finished in 44.06 seconds, ahead of compatriot and Olympic silver medallist Wariner (44.60s) and Renny Quow of Trinidad & Tobago (45.02s).
"It was all about putting it from my head to the track," said Merritt. "I had already won the race in my heart.
"I ran this race a million times in my head. At 300m I felt good and at 350m I knew I had won the race, so I just needed tobring it home."
After the race, LaShawn spoke about his relationship with Wariner with USA Today.
"We're competitors," Merritt said. "We're both representing USA, so we'll link in the 4x400 later, but both of us want the same thing at the end of the day.
"He's a great sportsman, I'm a great sportsman. I know every time we line up we're going to bring the best out of each other -- our 'A' game. I came out on top today."
